Week 2: Image as Documentation: Documenting Time 

Title: Water Cups

Technique Used: Graphite Pencils (HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B, H) Shading, Smudging, Erasing. 

Process: To start the sketch I had ruled lines on the top and bottom so I knew where the cups would be placed, and to also keep them all aligned so the change could be more clearly visible. I measured the width and ensured I drew an almost identical cup each time. I used various shading and smudging techniques to make the drawings more realistic. At the end of the sketch, I erased spots where lights would be hitting the cuts to enhance the sketch. 

Reflection: Overall I found this to be one of the most difficult sketches, as it took a lot of attempts to get it perfect. The final image displayed on this page is not clear, as it was the last copy I had saved before losing the sketch; therefore when viewing the quality it is not the highest. Next time, I would ensure I had backups in the form of scans saved incase this happens again. Overall, the different pencil drawing techniques learnt this week were beneficial as it allowed me to grow on my drawing skills and learn new styles.
